Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil

I had a very interesting week last week on my adventure into the corporate world. During my third round of research, I got to dive deep in the ethics of Corporate Law. Usually, I get bored when ethics is mentioned because, to me, I just assumed it was all about right and wrong, and just a bunch of rules and regulations. While it was about rules and regulations, It was way way more interesting than I thought it was going to be. Apparently, some corporate lawyers are witness to a lot of illegal activities and are in conversations that also talk about illegal things. Now, of course, everyone knows that at least to some extent, lawyers are normally walking a thin line when it comes to their clients and the law. But the statement that just made me so shocked, is that corporation lawyers are not always obligated to report illegal activities. Now it may vary from state to state, but I just thought that this information was so cool. Imagine how many lawyers see companies committing crimes, but they don't technically have to say anything. Plus, some conversations and business advice that lawyers give to their clients is also covered by something called privilege. It basically means that it cannot be discussed no matter what and cannot be discussed in a court of law! Obviously, there are a bunch of specifics that need to be followed in order for that to be true, but I just find that super fascinating. It's just so cool and ironic to know lawyers are to teach and uphold the law but are sometimes put against it due to their clients. I just wonder if a corporate lawyer has ever questioned their morals or changed their personal morals because of their job. SO MANY QUESTIONS!!! Anyways, this week we are still looking for mentors so hopefully I can connect with others and find one soon!!
